Time management

How we manage our time is pivotal to achieving consistent results in the workplace, and indeed, achieving what we want in life.

How many of your employees understand the fundamentals of effective time management? At O” we often discover that our clients' employees are ineffective at managing their time and this applies as much to executives and managers as to new entrants. Have you thought about the true cost of poor-to-average time management within your company? Are you inadvertently creating a commercial disadvantage below your competitors?

  • Failure to deliver projects on time and within budget
  • High levels of employee stress, absenteeism and staff turnover
  • Poor risk management on business critical issues
  • Dissatisfied customers who go elsewhere
  • Loss of profit due to poor workplace performance

Many time management ‘systems’ offered in the market as solutions to time management problems today are complex and time consuming to use. If you are not careful, you can spend all of your time planning and organising your work and still end up not delivering. At O” we consider the core competency of managing time to be a critical skill that can be coached. We apply some basic but fundamental principles to time management that anyone can learn in a few coaching sessions:

  1. Distinguish projects from activities and tasks
  2. Prioritise business critical projects and activities over others
  3. Focus on those key, business critical activities and tasks
  4. Delegate or delete lower priority activities and tasks
  5. Schedule your time for delivering on the business critical activities

Our approach to 1-2-1 time management coaching helps the candidates that you select to understand the fundamental principles of good time management. We provide them with a small number of key techniques to instantly improve their time management skills. We then support them as they change their time management behaviour and help them resolve the underlying psychological issues to such things as procrastination and perfectionism. This ensures that their new time management strategies are long lasting and sustained over time. Coaching key staff is an economic way of changing processes within whole departments, and the effect on profitability and morale can be remarkable.
